Let me introduce myself...

I’m so glad you’ve found your way to Poppy Counseling, and I can’t wait to learn more about your journey. As a therapist, I invite you to bring your authentic self into this space. Therapy is built on openness, collaboration, and vulnerability—for both the client and the therapist. With that in mind, I’d love to offer you a glimpse into who I am.

I grew up in a close-knit family of four—my parents, my younger brother, and me. As a child, I was often described as mature, quiet, and compassionate. Teachers would frequently say, "We wish she would speak up more in class." But looking back, I realize my quietness wasn’t about fear—it was about curiosity. I loved listening, observing, and understanding the dynamics of the people around me.

That passion for human connection has shaped my path over the years. From attending an international boarding school in England to conducting mental health research at Auburn University, I’ve sought to understand people on a deeper level. My journey continued through my master’s program in counseling, where I immersed myself in learning how to support others in their own growth and healing.

On the weekends you can find me outside with my dog, Poppy (an aspiring therapy dog), going to a workout class, or trying a new restaurant. My simple pleasures include sunny and 75 degree weather, a really good iced latte, and quality time with those I love.

Now that you know a bit about who I am - feel free to scroll down learn about my experience and clinical approach.

My clinical approach is integrative, grounded in a developmentally sensitive, brain-based framework that incorporates polyvagal theory to help clients better understand their nervous system and develop emotional regulation skills. I draw from cognitive behavioral therapy to support meaningful, practical change.
I prioritize building strong therapeutic rapport, as I recognize that a sense of safety and connection is foundational for healing. Through a compassionate and attuned approach, I help clients gain insight into their behaviors by exploring how past experiences, autonomic nervous system states, and the narrative of ourself influence emotional and behavioral responses. By incorporating nervous system regulation strategies, I guide clients in developing and refining adaptive coping skills that promote a shift from dysregulation to a state of safety and connection.
Ultimately, my goal is to empower clients to integrate these skills and awareness into their daily lives, fostering resilience, self-awareness, and nervous system flexibility as they confidently launch back into their world.

Clinical Experience:

My journey as a therapist has given me the opportunity to work in both private practice and nonprofit settings, supporting children, adolescents, teens, young adults, and parents through a variety of challenges. I have worked with clients across the lifespan, from as young as three to as old as eighty.

During my time at Auburn University, I participated in a research lab focused on the treatment and rehabilitation of juvenile sexual offenders. I worked alongside adolescents and teens in a juvenile prison, conducting pre- and post-treatment assessments to help measure the impact of therapeutic interventions. This experience deepened my understanding of trauma, resilience, and the critical role of early intervention.

During my graduate training, I worked at SMU’s Center for Family Counseling, where I provided therapy to individuals and groups, learning how to tailor treatment to each person’s unique needs. Before becoming a licensed therapist, I trained at Momentous Institute, where I led an intensive outpatient program for children ages 3–6 experiencing extreme behavioral dysregulation due to trauma and attachment wounds. While there, I trained extensively in Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) and Theraplay, approaches that continue to shape my work with children and families.

I spent three years at a local private practice, where I held roles in administration, as a clinical intern, and eventually as a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate. In this setting, I provided weekly therapy using play therapy, child-parent relationship training, and other evidence-based approaches to help children build resilience, regulate emotions, and develop healthy coping skills. While at the practice I saw a wide array of clients ranging from littles, teens, to adults. I love incorporating creativity, connection, and play into my sessions to meet each person where they are.

Beyond direct client work, I’ve been deeply involved in the behind-the-scenes operations of private practice, managing client outreach, administrative support, and practice development. These experiences have given me a well-rounded perspective on what makes a therapeutic space truly welcoming, effective, and supportive for individuals and families.
